Flood Warning until 10:15PM Saturday

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flood Warning for... Bland County in southwestern Virginia... Northwestern Carroll County in southwestern Virginia... Northern Grayson County in southwestern Virginia... Southwestern Pulaski County in southwestern Virginia... Northeastern Smyth County in southwestern Virginia... Tazewell County in southwestern Virginia... Wythe County in southwestern Virginia...

* Until 1015 PM EDT.

* At 712 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Several rounds of heavy rain have moved through the warned areas during the past couple of hours. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen since 5 PM EDT and an additional 1 to 2 inches is possible during the next 1 to 2 hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Wytheville, Bland, Richlands, Bluefield, Tazewell, Rural Retreat and Cedar Bluff. This includes the following streams and drainages... Beech Fork, Bluestone River, Burkes Garden Creek, Brown Lick Branch, Buddle Branch, Blue Spring Creek, Big Creek, Big Reed Island Creek, Clinch River and Cedar Run. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area.

* AFFECTED AREAS: BLAND, VA ... CARROLL, VA ... GRAYSON, VA ... PULASKI, VA ... SMYTH, VA ... TAZEWELL, VA ... WYTHE, VA

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
