On July 8, 2021, Todd Yao (DOB: 11/18/1970), was arrested for sexual battery (California Penal Code section 243(a). In November of 2020 the female victim sought treatment from Yao at Sutter Health in Mountain View where Yao was an urgent care medical doctor. After receiving treatment, Yao befriended the victim. Over a period of several months Yao made several romantic advances toward the victim which she rejected. On three separate occasions, Yao forced himself on the victim by pushing her down, straddling her and forcibly kissing her on the lips. Due to Yao’s social status as a medical doctor, the victim was reluctant to report any of the incidents. The victim ultimately decided to report the incidents out of concern for other potential victims.
The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety is concerned there may be additional victims and is asking that anyone who may have been a victim of Todd Yao please contact Detective Cayori at (408) 730-7122.
