El Cerrito Police Department Crime Blotter: July 5th - July 13th, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

July 5

Forgery-10394 San Pablo Avenue, California Check Cashing

At 1:39 pm, a 25-year-old man attempted to cash a check what was stolen during an auto burglary in Richmond the night prior. The man fled the business before the ECPD was called, but he left behind his driver license.

At 4:46 pm, officers arrested a 45-year-old female for attempting to cash a stolen check at the business. The woman was identified at the scene and released with a citation.

Battery- 11565 San Pablo Avenue, Walgreen’s

At 5:24 pm, a customer punched a store employee during an argument and then fled the business.

July 6

Vehicle Theft- 3300 block of Santa Clara Avenue

An unknown suspect stole a Chevy Camaro sometime during the night of the 5th.

Shoplifting-11565 San Pablo Avenue, Walgreen’s

At 12:28 pm, an unknown suspect entered the business, filled up several large bags with merchandise and left without paying.

Forgery-11755 San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito Honda

At 12:03 pm, a known suspect attempt to purchase a vehicle with a stolen check. Fortunately, the dealership discovered the check was bogus before the vehicle left the lot.

July 7

Grand Theft- 600 block of Richmond Street

At 9:51 am, the victim spotted several suspects removing the catalytic converter from their Prius. The victim yelled at the suspects who ran to an awaiting Honda and fled the scene with the catalytic converter.

Petty Theft- 225 El Cerrito Plaza, Trader Joe’s

On the 6th around 5:00 pm, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s wallet while they were shopping.

Assault - El Cerrito Plaza

At 8:08 am, security personnel were patrolling in a golf cart when an unidentified woman threw a glass bottle and struck the cart. Fortunately, the security guard was not hit by the bottle.

Possession for Sales- San Pablo Avenue / Potrero Avenue

At 2:43 am, an officer reports the arrest of a 41-year-old man who was arrested after cocaine,  prescription pills and a high capacity firearm magazine were located in his possession. A large quantity of cash and other materials located led officers to believe the man possessed the controlled substances for sale. The man was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

July 8

Grand Theft- 11800 block of San Pablo Avenue

At 6:24 am, an unknown male and two females went to the back parking lot and stole the catalytic converter from a Honda CR-V. As the three fled the scene, the male suspect was walking away with a handgun at his side.

Vehicle Theft- 6400 block of Portola Drive

An unknown suspect stole a motorized scooter sometime during the night of the 7th.

Vehicle Tampering & Warrant Arrest

At 3:03 pm, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 41-year-old man for tampering with the victim’s vehicle. During the investigation, it was discovered the man also had a misdemeanor warrant from Solano County. The man was issued a citation for today’s offense, the warrant and released from the scene.

July 9th

Grand Theft (Catalytic Converter) – Honda Dealership 11755 San Pablo Ave.

An unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter to a 2001 Honda CRV.  The victim’s vehicle was left at the dealership for several weeks to be serviced.  The incident occurred between May 19th – June 26th.

Hit and Run – Starbucks 11861 San Pablo Ave.

At 1:05 pm, the victim was in the drive thru line when the suspect backed his vehicle into hers.  The victim attempted to contact the suspect, but they fled the scene.  The suspect vehicle is described as a white older model Chevy SUV.

Identity Theft – 700 block of Balra Dr.

At 2:04 pm, an El Cerrito police officer reports that an unknown suspect fraudulently used the victim’s identity and opened a bank account in another state in February 2020.  The suspect then transferred over $5000.00 of the victim’s money, from a different bank account, into the fraudulent account. 

Petty theft (Stolen license plate) – 10636 San Pablo Avenue (24-Hour Fitness):

At 8:30 pm an officer was sent to a call where the victim’s license plate had been stolen off their car several hours earlier. 

July 10th

No reportable events. 

July 11th

Auto Burglary – Kearney Street at Conlon Avenue:

At 6:52 pm an officer was sent to the report that a vehicle had been broken into and property stolen from inside sometime in the previous
24 hours.

July 12th

Commercial Burglary – 11940 San Pablo Avenue (New Concept Laundromat):

At 12:20 am officers were sent to a business for the report that the alarm had been activated.  The officers arrived and found the doors were closed and locked.  The business owner arrived, and it was discovered that someone had entered the business through a hole in the roof and stole items from inside the business.    

Armed Robbery – 11600 block of San Pablo Ave:

At 11:11 am, an officer reports the victim left a business and was approached by a male. The male asked to use the victim’s phone. After returning the victim’s cell phone, the suspect removed a handgun from his waistband and demanded the victim’s property. The suspect took the victim’s watch and necklace and fled in a vehicle.   

Strong Arm Robbery – Central Ave and Liberty St:

At 1:06 pm, an officer reports the victim was approached by two subjects who demanded property. The victim gave the suspects his belt and then one of the suspects rifled through the victim’s pockets and took his cell phone. The suspects then fled the area.

Theft and Warrant Arrest – 6100 block of Potrero Ave:

At 3:57 pm, an officer reports the arrest of a 35-year-old male. The male stole a pair of shoes from a residence and was located nearby. A warrant check revealed he was a wanted person. The male was transported to county jail.

Felon in Possession of a Firearm – 100 block of Carmel St:

At 5:13 pm, officers responded to a distubance. During the investigation it was revealed a 33-year-old male, who is felon, was in possession of a rifle and was carrying it during an argument.  The male was taken into custody and transported to county jail.

Theft – 1200 block of Liberty St:

At 2:25 hours, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole a package of the victim’s porch.

Shoplifting – 5800 block of Cutting Boulevard:

At 4:48 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect selected several pairs of shoes and backpack from a business and left without paying.

July 13th

Catalytic converter theft – 6800 block of Cutting Blvd.:

At 1:58 am an officer was sent to the report that someone had just been under their neighbor’s vehicle and then fled in a white SUV.  When the officer arrived, they found the catalytic converter had been stolen from the vehicle. 

Catalytic converter theft – 6300 block of Conlon Avenue:

At 2:14 am, an officer was sent to the report that someone had just stolen the catalytic converter off of their vehicle ten minutes prior.  The suspect left in a white SUV.
