Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports his office investigated a Motorcycle vs Car crash at the intersection of US 12 Hwy and Tharp Lake Rd in Mason Twp., Cass County, Michigan.  This crash occurred on 07-14-2021 at approx. 1620 Hrs.
 
Initial investigation shows that a motorcycle driven by Lon Franklin, 72 yr. old of Elkhart, IN was west bound on US 12  when a north bound vehicle on Tharp Lake Rd failed to stop.  The north bound vehicle, driven by 29 yr old White Pigeon resident Sarah Blough, struck the rear tire of the motorcycle, sending it off the highway into a small grass field area.  Franklin was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Franklin was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.  Alcohol may have been a factor in this incident.
 
Deputies were assisted on scene by SEPSA Fire/Ambulance.
 
This crash remains under investigation.
