Crime Alert Bulletin for the Week of July 5-11, 2021

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 07-06-21 at approximately 5:05 a.m., several officers were dispatched to a residence on the 200 block of Alta Vista Way on a report of a just-occurred armed home invasion. One of the residents, a 59-year old male, said he was woken up by his dog barking loud in the backyard. The victim walked down the hallway towards the back door when he began hearing loud banging at the front door. The victim woke up his wife, and they ran to his room to hide. As they were hiding in the room, they heard multiple voices inside their house and eventually heard loud banging at the bedroom door. The men on the other side of the door kicked open the door and entered the room. The victim said all three males were each armed with a handgun. The victim said the first subject pointed his gun at him and said, “Do you want to die?” The victim said he pled not to be hurt, and the suspect took both him and his 60-year old wife at gunpoint to the garage area. The first subject held both victims there while the other two subjects went through the house looking for items to steal. The two subjects returned and wanted the first suspect to bring the residents back upstairs and tell them where they hid their money. The victim told the suspect where he hid his money and told the suspects that his son should be coming home soon—so that the subjects would leave the residence. The victims described the first suspect as a Hispanic male in his 20’s-30’s, approximately 6’2”, slender build, with a mask covering his head, gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and black gloves. The second suspect was described as a light skinned black male in his 20’s-30’s, approximately 6’2”, 230 lbs., wearing a black face mask, black sweatshirt, black pants, and black gloves. The third suspect was described as a light skinned black male in his 20’s-30’s, slender build, wearing a black mask, black sweatshirt, black pants, and black gloves. In addition to stealing the money, the suspect stole jewelry, an iPhone, an iPad, and a passport. This investigation is continuing.

On Tuesday, 07-06-21 at 9:10 a.m., Officer Andrade and Officer Hepler were dispatched to the Lake Merced Golf Country Club on a report of an unwanted person. The reporting party told the dispatcher that there was a subject loitering inside the golf course and was trying to force his way into one of the doors. Office Hepler found a subject matching the description. The manager of the golf course wanted the subject removed from the premises. The subject, a 36-year old Henderson resident, had a warrant and a glass pipe used to smoke controlled substances in his possession. Officer Andrade issued the subject a citation.

On Tuesday, 07-06-21 between 9:00 a.m. and 9:20 a.m., a home invasion robbery occurred at a residence on the 600 block of North Mayfair Avenue. The suspects entered through an open ground floor window, and an 89-year old female was home but was unaware that the suspects were inside the residence. The victim reported that 10 minutes after her daughter left for work, she went downstairs and noticed her daughter’s laptop was on the stairs. The victim then noticed the downstairs bathroom window was wide open, and the screen missing. The victim saw her daughter’s clothes on the floor and called her to ask her why. The suspects stole a purse containing $300 and identification cards and jewelry belonging to the victim’s daughter. After reviewing neighborhood surveillance cameras, officers saw a silver high-end 4 door vehicle was seeing arriving and leaving the area in front of the victim’s residence.

On Tuesday, 07-06-21 at approximately 11:15 a.m., several officers were dispatched to a residence on the 300 block of Higate Avenue on a report of another in-progress home invasion robbery. The dispatcher said the suspect was described as a male wearing all black and that the suspect kicked in the door. One of the victims told the officers he was sleeping in the lower in-law unit with his wife when he was awakened by some type of commotion coming from another part of the residence. The 73-year old victim said he started looking around his house and found one of the doors to the backyard was partially forced open. The victim told his wife to call 911, and he looked out his window and saw a gray Infiniti backed up to his driveway. The victim said he went back to his bedroom and armed himself with his gun. He said the suspect started forcing a bedroom door open, and he saw a suspect clad in all black clothing. The victim said he fired several rounds, and the suspect ran out of the garage, up the stairs, and out the front door. The victim said the vehicle was gone from the driveway. The suspect initially entered the residence by prying the rear door/security gate. The victim who lived on the upper main level said his property was discarded in the backyard.

On Wednesday, 07-07-21 at 2:06 a.m., officers were dispatched to City Toyota on San Pedro Road on the report of a suspicious subject who was trying to pull off a key box from a window of a vehicle. Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
