The National Weather Service in Springfield has extended the
* Flood Warning for... Southern Bourbon County in southeastern Kansas... Cherokee County in southeastern Kansas... Crawford County in southeastern Kansas... Northwestern Barton County in southwestern Missouri... Southern Vernon County in west central Missouri...
* Until 1100 AM CDT.
* At 505 AM CDT, gauge reports indicated that flooding was occurring due to slow moving thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall across the warned area. Between 1 and 4 inches of rain have fallen.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Pittsburg, Columbus, Girard, Frontenac, Galena, Arma, Liberal and Cherokee. This includes the following low water crossings... East Fork Dry Wood Creek at NW 110th Lane and Dry Wood Creek at Highway K. The river gauge on the Lightning Creek near McCune, indicated that the water level had reached flood stage.
* AFFECTED AREAS: BOURBON, KS ... CHEROKEE, KS ... CRAWFORD, KS ... BARTON, MO ... VERNON, MO
Instructions:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Many flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
