Flash Flood Watch until 04:00PM Tuesday
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a
* Flash Flood Watch for portions of northeast Georgia and upstate South Carolina, including the following areas, in northeast Georgia, Franklin, Habersham, Rabun and Stephens. In upstate South Carolina, Greater Oconee, Greater Pickens, Oconee Mountains and Pickens Mountains.
* Through Tuesday afternoon.
* Heavy rain showers with embedded thunderstorms will develop across the western Upstate of South Carolina and northeast Georgia overnight. A stationary front will provide a broad focusing zone, while moist southwesterly flow interacts with upslope lift to produce rounds of deep convection. Rainfall rates will be high in some of these storms and locally 2-4 inches of rain will fall across the area through late morning.
* Training of heavy precipitation is be possible leading to excessive rainfall and flooding. Deep ponding of water will develop in low-lying and poor drainage areas, many streams and creeks will rise to near bankfull due to the runoff from the heavy rain, and flooding is likely across some streams.
