Full Notification

On July 12^th, 2021, at approximately 11:11 am, El Cerrito officers were dispatched to the report of an armed robbery that just occurred at the Valero.  The victim had a chain and watch stolen at gun point after letting the suspect borrow his cellular telephone.  Detectives identified Eric Dewayne Smith, 25 years old from Berkeley as the responsible and obtained a warrant for his arrest.  Smith was arrested in Berkeley on July 17^th in the vehicle used during the commission of the robbery.  During a follow up search warrant, a 40 caliber semi-automatic firearm with an extended magazine was recovered.  Smith is on both parole and probation.  The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office has since filed felony charges.
