Crime Alert Bulletin for the week of July 12-18, 2021

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Wednesday, 07-14-21 at 4:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Dollar Tree store on Geneva Avenue on a report of a man with a knife. The dispatcher advised that the subject was trying to shoplift, and when confronted, he pulled out a knife and was trying to fight people. When the officers arrived, they were told that the subject had left the store. The reporting party gave a description of the subject, and officers saw a subject matching the description on Schwerin Street near Geneva Avenue. When the subject saw the officers, he ran away from them. After a 20-yard chase, the officers were able to gain custody of the subject. The 36-year old transient subject was booked in jail for robbery, resisting arrest, and for an outstanding warrant. After searching the subject in jail, the correctional staff found suspected fentanyl in the subject’s anus. A charge of bringing contraband into the jail was added to the list of offenses.

On Thursday, 07-15-21 at 7:15 a.m., a 52-year old Daly City resident called and said his neighbor pulled out a semi-automatic firearm out of his “chest pack” and pointed it across the street. The reporting party did not know if it was real and said, “He just walked out, said good morning, pointed it ahead of himself and walked back inside.” This occurred on the unit block of John Glenn Drive. Officers contacted the subject’s father at their residence, and the subject’s father said his son admitted to pulling out his gun and firing shots into the air. Officer Hepler contacted the 34-year old son who admitted to the incident and pointed to the officer where his replica gun was. He also had another replica firearm and surrendered both to the officer. The reporting party did not want to press charges.

On Thursday, 07-15-21 at 5:33 p.m., subsequent to a traffic stop on the 1500 block of Sullivan Avenue, officers arrested the driver, a 25-year old San Francisco resident, for being a felon in possession of an unregistered firearm, a felon in possession of ammunition and an extended capacity magazine, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle and public place, possession of marijuana for sales, and driving with a suspended driver's license.
On Friday, 07-16-21 at 8:26 p.m., Officer Premenko conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on the unit block of Forest Grove Drive. During the stop, the officer said the driver tried to roll the window up and start the car in an attempt to drive away. The driver, a 22-year old San Francisco resident, punched the officer in the face. The subject failed the field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence, resisting a police officer, battery against a police officer, and driving with a suspended driver's license.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
