Folsom Police Department Completes First Year of Three Year STAKE Grant

Folsom, CA- The Folsom Police Department has completed the first year of its three-year STAKE grant.

STAKE is the Stop Tobacco Access to Kids Enforcement Grant program which funds personnel time for sworn officers and administrative staff to perform tobacco education and enforcement activities.

It is illegal for a retailer in the United States to sell any tobacco product, including cigarettes, cigars, and e-cigarettes to anyone under 21.

This quarter’s accomplishments:

• Joint Sting Operation conducted at five Folsom retailers; three sold to the minor decoy and were issued warnings.
• Participated in community outreach Eggstravaganza event distributing free anti-smoke/vape swag bags. Donated additional swag to Mercy Folsom communities.
• Compliance checks conducted at all 38 Tobacco Retailers.
• Conducted virtual educational presentations for Folsom Cordova Unified School District students; approximately 4,520 middle & high school students reached.

The grant programs will run until July 1, 2023.

Funding for this program is from the California Department of Public Health through the Food and Drug Branch Tobacco Enforcement Section. For more information see the California Healthcare, Research, and Prevention Tobacco Tax Act of 2016, Proposition 56.
