Subject: Park Circle Attempted Homicide

On Thursday, July 22nd, 2021, at 7:23 AM, the Sun Prairie Police Department responded to the Element Apartments located at 200 Park Circle in the City of Sun Prairie for a report of a possible shooting. Officers were able to locate the victim on scene and the suspect in the nearby area.

The Investigation currently indicates that the victim and suspect knew each other. The two got into an argument which led to the shooting. The suspect fired a single shot at the victim. The victim was not struck with the projectile and the suspect fled the area. There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident nor was any identified property damaged.

Nicholas R. Thompson, 31 years of age, from Sun Prairie was arrested and booked into Dane County Jail on one count of 1st Degree Attempted Homicide.

The Sun Prairie Police Department was assisted by the Dane County Sheriff’s Department, Sun Prairie EMS, and the Sun Prairie Fire Department.

All information currently indicates this was a targeted incident and not a random incident. There is no additional information to currently report.
