Safety and Sobriety Checkpoint, 9/4/21
The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety will operate a safety and sobriety checkpoint on September 4, 2021. The primary purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety; increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and serves as a deterrent to potential impaired drivers.
Sunnyvale DPS will be operating its own DUI checkpoint. Vehicles traveling northbound on Mathilda between Maude Avenue and San Aleso Avenue will be randomly stopped and drivers will be evaluated to determine their sobriety. Officers will also look at the safety of the vehicle, use of seatbelts and the validity of the operator’s license. The checkpoint is scheduled to operate from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
