UPDATE ON WRECK as of 2:45 p.m.: Both I-65 southbound lanes south of US 72 could be closed for several hours. Troopers are working the wreck but have advised Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson that multiple vehicles are involved.
Johnson advises motorists to avoid the area. Those on I-65 can detour onto U.S. 31.
