July Firearm Investigations

Gun crimes are a concern on a national, state and local level. The Janesville Police Department continues to take a pro-active stance on gun crimes within the community to ensure public safety. Below is a quick summary of the various firearm investigations officers have conducted during the month of July.
 

  • 07-25-21: An officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a roadway moving violation. As a result of the investigation, the driver, Tyler  Brown (male, 37 years of age) was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated-Third Offense. After searching the suspect vehicle, officers seized a loaded firearm (Ruger .357) under the driver seat and a small quantity of marijuana. Tyler Brown was later arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Possession of THC (Incident JV2136848).
  • 07-25-21: Officers were dispatched to a local bar establishment for a disturbance involving a firearm. The reporting person indicated a male threatened him after pointing a rifle at him from a vehicle. Officers located the suspect vehicle and later arrested suspect, Nathan Sarabia (male, 35 years of age). He was arrested for Disorderly Conduct while Armed. After searching the suspect vehicle, officers seized one handgun (Glock 9mm), two assault rifles (Daniels Defense .556 and a BCM 300 Blackout), a backpack containing 38 loaded firearm magazines, a tactical vest with armored plates, a tactical knife and a large quantity of ammunition inside the vehicle (Incident JV2136852).
  • 07-24-21: Officers were dispatched to a residence for a possible domestic disturbance. The male suspect, Dustin Hartman (male, 32 years of age) admitted to being a convicted felon with firearms inside his residence. Officers later seized 2 handguns (Taurus 9mm and Springfield 9mm ), 2 rifles ( Diamondback .223 and Hammerli .22), firearm magazines, and a quantity of ammunition, which were kept inside the residence (Incident JV2136712).
  • 07-24-21: Officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Center Avenue for a shots fired complaint called in by neighbors. Upon arrival, officers located 6 empty 40 caliber shell casings at a nearby residence. During the neighborhood canvass, officers located a juvenile who had observed the male suspect shooting a firearm outside. As a result of the investigation, Gerson Rivera-Flores (male, 22 years of age) was arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Endangering Safety with Dangerous Weapon While Intoxicated (Incident JV2136670). Officers searched the residence and were unable to locate the firearm used during the incident.
  • 07-24-21: An officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation. The driver was later identified as Marquise Vance (male, 26 years of age). Sgt Severson and K9 Fred arrived on scene to assist. During the course of the traffic stop investigation, Marquise Vance took off running and was later apprehended by K9 Fred. After searching the suspect vehicle, officers seized two loaded handguns (Glock 19 and Ruger 57) in the glovebox. Marquis Vance was currently on Felony Probation/Parole for several criminal offenses including Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin. As a result of the investigation, Marquis Vance was arrested for Battery/Threat to Law Enforcement, Resisting, Possession with Intent to Deliver Fentanyl, Possession of Schedule II Narcotic, Causing Harm to a Police Animal and Felon in Possession of a Firearm (Incident JV2136650).
  • 07-23-21: Sgt Severson initiated a traffic stop on a suspect vehicle involved in a criminal investigation. The occupants of the suspect vehicle had initially lied about their identity to another officer during a separate investigation. K9 Fred positively alerted on the suspect vehicle. After officers searched the vehicle, they located a handgun (Glock 42) and a loaded magazine in the glove box. As a result, officers arrested Gregory Weston (male,33 years of age) for Resisting/Obstructing an Officer, Felon in Possession of A Firearm and Felony Bail Jumping. Gregory Weston was a convicted felon and had been arrested in the past for Armed Robbery with a Firearm. He currently has an open court case and was out on felony bond conditions. His bond conditions stated he may not possess any weapons or firearms (JV2136526).
  • 07-18-21: Officers were dispatched to a local gas station for an unwanted subject complaint. Upon arrival, the officer observed the male suspect throw a handgun (loaded Smith & Wesson 45) underneath a vehicle. As a result of the investigation, the male subject was brought to a local hospital for mental health treatment. The firearm was later confiscated for safe keeping (JV2135642).
  • 07-13-21: An officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by suspect, Dominique Lewis (male, 31 years of age). The officer knew Dominique Lewis had outstanding criminal drug charges. During the investigation, officers located a handgun (Smith & Wesson 40 caliber) sitting in the backseat of the suspect vehicle with a loaded magazine and a small quantity of marijuana. Dominique was a convicted Felon. As a result of the investigation, he was arrested for Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession of THC (JV2134753).
  • 07-08-21: An officer was flagged down by a local gas station clerk for a check welfare complaint. An employee observed a male subject slumped over in the driver seat of a vehicle. When the officer went and spoke to the male suspect, Justin Marshall (male,32 years of age) the officer observed drug paraphernalia in plain view. During the investigation, officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded firearm (Taurus 9mm) in a drawstring bag he had on his lap. Justin Marshall is a convicted felon. As a result of the investigation, he was arrested for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Fentanyl, Possession of Cocaine, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession with Intent to Deliver Schedule IV Narcotics, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (JV2133637).
