Felony OWI 2nd Offense Causing Injury
On Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 11:49pm, the Middleton Police Department received reports of a head-on vehicle crash on University Avenue at Branch Street. Officers arrived moments later and determined one of the vehicles had been traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of University Avenue.
One involved driver was transported to a local hospital by Middleton Paramedics with apparent minor injuries.
The wrong way driver was identified as Alezis Gonzalez-Valdez, 25 years old, of Madison. Officers noticed a strong odor of intoxicants coming from Gonzalez-Valdez and located open intoxicants within his vehicle. Gonzalez-Valdez was arrested for 2nd offense operating while under the influence (OWI) causing injury and was later transported to the Dane County Jail.
Middleton EMS and Middleton Fire assisted the police department at the scene.
