IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GRASSO ON COVID-19 FRIDAY JULY 30, 2021 CONSIDER GETTING FULLY VACCINATED
One of the fundamental reasons that we live in the greatest nation of governed peoples in history, in my opinion, is because we have the right to make choices. Respecting the rights of all first, we are fundamentally free to choose our direction in this life. And no one lives that life without being grateful for choices she/he made – or, in counterbalance, regrets some of those choices which hindsight sometimes clearly shows us we're wrong. To me, that is where we all are today when it comes to choosing to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 coronavirus – now complicated by the infamous Delta variant, and who knows what’s next. Positive test cases are back, and rising too fast. Doctors and caregivers who understandably thought we were out of the tunnel of darkness are seeing the lights dimming again - people are getting sick, more deaths are occurring from COVID-19, now in the second half of 2021.
Fact: the vast majority – some stats show over 90% - of the hospitalized and dying have one common denominator – they are unvaccinated. With choice comes consequences. If you are not – and you do not have a medical reason for abstaining – please consider getting fully vaccinated.
Here follows information for all parts of our Village. The DuPage County Board of Health has announced that DuPage’s COVID-19 community transmission is now at a Substantial level. The Board of Health advocates for vaccination, stating that vaccines continue to be the best form of protection against COVID-19, including the Delta variant, and help prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death. The DCHD strongly endorses the recently updated CDC masking guidance which recommends everyone, including fully vaccinated individuals, wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas with the substantial and high potential transmission. This recommendation includes employers, retailers, restaurants/bars, fitness/recreational centers, libraries, governmental entities, healthcare facilities, and other public venues.
The Board of Health urges residents who are 12 years and older to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible to protect themselves and others against COVID-19 and the more dangerous Delta variant. Vaccine sites can be found at www.vaccines.gov to find a local vaccination center or call your doctor. Updated recommendations on masking based on vaccination status and setting are available here. In addition to visiting www.vaccines.gov to find a nearby vaccine provider, the DCHD Community Vaccination Clinic in Wheaton offers COVID-19 vaccines Monday through Friday. For more information, visit www.dupagehealth.org/covid19vaccineclinic. Additionally, any DuPage County residents who are homebound or who cannot safely leave their residence to visit a vaccination clinic are eligible to be vaccinated through our homebound vaccination program and should register at dupagehealth.org/covid19vaccineregistration, or call (630) 682-7400. These services are available to all DuPage or Cook residents.
As we move into August, continue to look forward knowing we are all still in this fight together.
