Grand Terrace: Deputies arrest suspect who burglarized 2 businesses and returned stolen merchandise to the businesses

SUMMARY: .On Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at approximately 1:27 am, Deputy Tarankow responded to a burglary alarm at a business in the 22300 block of Barton Road in the city of Grand Terrace. Tarankow discovered two businesses had their front windows smashed.
Tarankow entered the businesses and confirmed they were burglarized and had the responsible parties for each store respond. They confirmed merchandise was stolen and valued the damage to their stores and stolen merchandise to be over $900.00. Through video surveillance, Tarankow and Deputy Perez discovered the suspect was a white male adult, dressed in all black.
On Thursday, August 5, 2021, Tarankow saw a man who matched the exact description of the person who was captured on video surveillance during the burglaries walking in the area near the burglarized businesses.
Tarankow contacted the man who identified himself as Jeremy Cheney. After speaking with Cheney he showed Tarankow where he placed the stolen merchandise. Tarankow recovered the stolen merchandise and returned it to the rightful business. Cheney was arrested and booked for PC 459, Burglary.
