For Immediate Release
The Green Bay Police Department’s Canine unit, which has substantially helped reduce crime in the city will announce its plans on August 10, 2021 to add an additional K-9 to the department this fall.
After the loss of Green Bay Police Department K-9, Neo, in August of 2020, The Green Bay Police Department along with The Bark ‘n Blue Foundation is in a position to build the Canine unit back up to 6 K-9’s and plans to have a canine on duty 24 hours a day with overlapping shifts.
“The Canines give a great additional tool to our offices to combat crime in Green Bay,” Interim Chief Runge said. “They are valued members of our department.”
In 2020, GBPD K-9’s were used over 1200 times in the community on calls for service. With adding another K-9, the Police Department will have a K-9 available for service almost any time of day.
The Mission of The Bark ‘n Blue Foundation is to provide funding and resources for police K-9 units to acquire the best available tools to maintain the highest level of public safety. The Bark ‘n Blue Foundation is a tax-exempt organization under 501© 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
