NPD DETECTIVES ARREST AUTO BURGLARY SUSPECT

Newark,  California  Friday,  August  6,  2021)

On  Tuesday,  August  3,  2021,  a victim  reported that  her vehicle was  burglarized in a parking lot  in the 5000 block  of  Mowry  Avenue.  The victim  provided  the  partial  license plate number and description of the  suspect’s  vehicle,  which was  a black  Dodge Durango.  Two plain clothed  Newark  Police Detectives  responded  and  were able to  locate  a  vehicle  that  fit  the description  and had  three subjects  inside.

Newark  Detectives  initiated surveillance of  the suspect  vehicle and found it  in another shopping center  outside of  Newark,  at  which point  resources  from  neighboring agencies  was  requested.  While coordinating  support  and  resources  from  outside agencies,  the  suspects  traversed through  multiple cities  committing  at  least  one additional  auto burglary.

The suspects  ultimately  ended  up  in Oakland where they  fled on foot.  Regional  agencies  initiated  a perimeter,  made  contact,  and arrested  one subject  without  incident.  Two  suspects  are still outstanding,  and Detectives  are actively  working to identify  them. Newark  Police Detectives  took  the suspect  into custody  and recovered  multiple  property  items  that are  believed  to be stolen.  At  this  time,  Newark  Detectives  identified  8 victims  and are still  in the process  of  identifying  possible  additional  victims.   The suspect,  Jamal  Wright,  a  31-year-old  male  out  of  Richmond  was  on  parole  for prior arrests.  He was  booked  at  Santa Rita Jail  and charged with auto burglary.

If  you have any  information regarding this  investigation or  believe  you were victimized,  please contact  Newark  Detective Andrew Musantry  at  [email protected]  or 510.578.4956.
