Full Notification

On August 7, 2021 at 0116 hours, the Readington Township Police Department responded to a single motor vehicle accident on US Route 22 near Mountain Road.  While patrol units were responding, they were alerted by a passerby that the driver was seen running from the accident scene.  The driver was located nearby and identified as Eric Specht from Branchburg, NJ.  Specht displayed indicators of intoxication and subsequently failed sobriety tests.  Specht was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident.  Specht was released from police custody to a family member.  Investigation and arrest completed by Patrolman Anderson.

The filing of of charges is merely one step in the process.  A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
