TORNADO WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 800 PM CDT FOR RICHLAND COUNTY.

National Weather Service has issued a TORNADO WATCH for RICHLAND COUNTY until 8:00 PM CDT. 

NWS La Crosse - HAPPENING NOW: Scattered storms are developing north of I-94 and moving south along the I-90 corridor. Some of these storms could be severe, with the primary threats being very large hail (larger than golf ball) and damaging wind. Stay weather aware and make sure you have several ways to receive warnings!


A few strong to severe storms will be possible this afternoon into the early evening as a cold front slides across the region. Storms are expected to develop in central or western Wisconsin in the early to mid-afternoon and intensify quickly, developing south and east. There is some uncertainty about where the storms will develop, it could be further east.

Damaging winds, very large hail (golfballs or larger) and locally heavy rain will be the main threats with this activity. Be sure to seek shelter if storms approach your location today.

The heat and humidity will hang on for one more day. A heat advisory remains in effect for a small portion of northeast Iowa and southwest Wisconsin where heat indices around 100 will be possible.

  • Where: western/central Wisconsin into northeast Iowa.
  • Timing: 2 to 7 p.m.
  • Impacts: hail damage to property, crops possible. Winds could damage trees, down power lines.
