Tax bills will begin to be mailed this Friday. The final tax rate for the Borough of Washington for 2021 is $5.040 per $100 valuation, down from $5.161 in 2020 reflecting a DECREASE of 2.4% in the municipal tax rate. Though the Warren County tax rate INCREASED by .011 (reflecting an increase of 1.4%) the Washington Borough and Warren Hills Regional tax rate DECREASED slightly (reflecting a decrease of 0.9%)-overall the decrease in the rate results in a property tax decrease of approximately $173 annually on the average assessed home in the Borough of Washington at $143,285.35. Put another way, for every dollar that the Borough receives in property tax payments, it retains $0.27 (twenty seven cents) and sends the remaining $0.73 (seventy three cents) onto the schools, county and municipal library.

Please note that the percentages called out on the chart only add up to 98% rather than 100%. This is due to the fact that Municipal Library Tax, County Open Space Tax and Municipal Open Space Tax combined only account for 2% of the property tax bill and labeling was omitted for purposes of visual clarity.
