LOCATION: 2201 East 8th Street---Iglesias Ni Cristo Church

On August 12, 2021, at about 0314 hours, an unknown suspect ignited a fire at Iglesias Ni Cristo Church and fled the scene in a grey pickup truck. The church was unoccupied at the time. The fire set off the burglary alarm prompting a response from NCPD officers. Officers arrived and used fire extinguishers to put out most of the fire. National City firefighters arrived shortly thereafter and completely put out the fire. The fire damaged the front doors of the church and caused smoke damage to the inside. The repair cost is unknown at this time. National City Fire arson investigator responded and processed the crime scene. Evidence was recovered from the scene.
During the investigation, surveillance video captured the arson. Ace Tomas Rancudo (37-year-old San Diego resident) was identified as the arson suspect. Rancudo was a former parishioner of the church. Detectives found Rancudo’s vehicle parked in the 400 block of Sunnyside in San Diego.
At about 0924 hours, Rancudo got into his truck and drove away. Detectives conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and Rancudo was taken into custody without incident. Rancudo was transported to county jail and booked on felony arson charges.
