Notable Cases

On Monday, 08-02-21 at 12:31 p.m., several officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Mountain View Drive on a report of a strong armed robbery. The victim said he had returned home from getting a smog check and parked in his assigned parking space, which is directly across from his residence. The 65-year old victim said he opened his driver’s side door and was approached by three black male adults who said, “Give me your watch”, referring to his Rolex watch he was wearing on his left wrist. The victim told the suspects, “No”, and the victim said one or all of the suspects said they had a gun. The victim said he didn’t believe them, and he said all three suspects began punching and kicking him on his chest and legs. The victim said he bit the suspects to protect himself. He also said during the struggle, the suspects tried to grab his Rolex watch, broke the band, but he was able to maintain possession of the watch. The victim said the suspects attempted to pull on his gold necklace he was wearing, but he was able to maintain possession of that as well. The victim said he did lose two pendants attached to the necklace. The victim said the three subjects ran away westbound on Mountain View Drive toward the security gate. The victim suffered minor scratches, pain and numbness to his left wrist, an abrasion to the palm of his right hand, and a laceration to the inner portion of his upper lip.

On Monday, 08-02-21 at 9:46 p.m., Officer N. Martin was dispatched to the Target Store on a report of a suspicious person inside of the store. The reporting party said a male and female appeared to be shoplifting and that the male may have had a baton holster on his belt. Officer Martin arrived and saw that there was, indeed, either a pepper spray holder or a baton holster. He asked the subject what he had on his hip, and the subject told the officer it was a baton. The subject, a 31-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for being in possession of a baton as well as brass knuckles. Officer Moody found two other suspects related to the call in the parking lot. Officer Moody cited the female, a 28-year old San Francisco resident, for shoplifting, and he cited the male, a 29-year old San Ramon resident, for a warrant.

On Monday, 08-21-21 at 10:04 p.m., a 39-year old Daly City resident was arrested by Officer Dhaliwal for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage following a traffic collision near the intersection of Evergreen Avenue and Winchester Street.

On Wednesday, 08-04-21 at 12:01 a.m., Officer N. Martin was on patrol at the Serramonte Shopping Center when he saw a Chevrolet S10 that was running and parked in front of dumpsters behind the buybuy BABY business. Officer Martin saw two male subjects with various bags emerge from within the dumpster. One subject walked swiftly towards the vehicle and turned it off. The officer walked up to the passenger side of the vehicle and saw a black pistol which resembled a real firearm. Officer Martin told the subject to put his hands on the steering wheel, and the subject spontaneously told the officer the gun was a BB gun and not real. Officer Lajoie arrived to assist, and Officer Martin asked the subject if he had anything illegal on his person. The subject had a clear glass pipe with a burnt end—which is commonly used to ingest controlled substances—specifically methamphetamine. The subject also had a clear baggie with two shards of a white crystalline substance. Officer Martin cited the subject, a 62-year old Daly City resident, for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The victim said he ran after the suspect and ultimately caught up with him at the intersection of Mission Street and Flournoy Street. The victim said he grabbed ahold of the suspect, and they engaged in a physical fight over the cellphone. The victim was able to pry the cellphone out of the suspect’s hand. A short time later, the victim’s friend assisted in breaking up the fight. The suspect was last seen running eastbound on San Jose Avenue. The victim described the suspect as a Hispanic male in his 20’s, approximately 5’9”, 170 lbs., wearing a white long-sleeve shirt and black pants.

He said at that time, 3-4 unknown subjects approached him and asked why he was wearing red. The victim said the subjects then assaulted him. The victim’s friends arrived, and the other suspects fled. The victim sustained severe swelling all over his face and head, as well as numerous abrasions. The officers were able to find and arrest the three subjects (19, 24 and 32-year Daly City residents) for assault likely to produce great bodily injury. Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
