Suspect in Pursuit Drives in to the Colorado River

INCIDENT: VC 2800.2 - Felony Evading
LOCATION: G Street / Broadway Street, Needles
SUSPECT(S): Edward Pelton, 54-years-old of Washington
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY:
On Monday, August 16, 2021, at approximately 2:45 a.m., deputies from the Colorado River Station / Needles Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the area of G Street and Broadway Street in Needles, for a vehicle code violation. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Edward Pelton and through investigation, deputies discovered an active felony warrant for Pelton’s arrest. When deputies attempted to take Pelton into custody for his warrant, he resisted and fled in his vehicle in a reckless manner with disregard for the publics safety. In an attempt to elude deputies, Pelton drove his vehicle into the Colorado River. Multiple agencies assisted in the search for Pelton who was taken into custody a short time later without incident. Pelton was arrested for felony evading and was later released after being transported to a local hospital due to numerous medical issues.
