Advisory: Red Flag Fire Warning in Effect tonight 8/17/21 at 11:00 PM.
 
The National Weather Service has upgraded the forecast for the East Bay Hills to a Red Flag Fire Weather Warning beginning tonight (Tuesday, August 17, 2021) at 11:00 pm.  This means that critical fire weather conditions will be occurring from tonight (Tuesday, August 17, 2021) 11:00 pm through Wednesday (August 18, 2021) at 3:00 pm.  A combination of winds forecast to be gusting 30-40 MPH and possibly up to 50 MPH, low relative humidity and warm temperatures all contribute to extreme fire behavior and cause these hazardous conditions.
Areas of Concern: Highest confidence right now is for the hills across Napa County, but models do suggest that enhanced offshore winds could also impact interior Sonoma County along with the East Bay hills in Alameda and into Contra Costa counties
 
Residents should take precautions and consider the following:
Avoid mowing or using equipment around dry grass;
Do not park vehicles on or drive vehicles through dry grass;
Report suspicious activity; and
Be aware of and report vertical columns of smoke in the area, which are different from the drift smoke from other fires that we have had in our area.
 
Bay Area - Near Surface Smoke Concerns Details:
Areas of Concern: Entire Bay Area including North Bay, East Bay, South Bay...may also reach Santa Cruz County
Timing: Tuesday evening into Wednesday...Smoke will impact North Bay Tuesday night and then spread southward overnight into Wednesday
Smoke: Higher concentrations of smoke near the surface are forecast to impact the region
