Collision leads to felony DUI arrest.
On August 17, 2021, Arroyo Grande Police Department officers responded to the report of a rollover traffic collision in the 1200 block of Ash St. Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspect vehicle had collided with two parked vehicles, overturned and came to rest on its roof in the roadway. The adult male driver, and two young children who were passengers in the vehicle, self-extricated with the assistance of bystanders prior to officers’ arrival. The driver and juvenile passengers were evaluated for minor injuries at the scene by Five Cities Fire Authority and San Luis Ambulance personnel.
After an investigation, it was determined that the driver, identified as 27-year-old Michael Langan Benson of Arroyo Grande, had been driving under the influence of drugs at the time of the collision. Benson was arrested on charges 23153(f) VC - felony driving under the influence of drugs and causing injury, and 273a(a) PC – felony child endangerment, and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.
