As part of state and national efforts to help keep roadways safe for all travelers, police officers with the City of Middleton, Village of Waunakee and the Village of Shorewood Hills made an additional 80 traffic stops during the month of July by officers working the traffic grant. Our departments were able to focus an additional 49 hours on OWI enforcement during July.
While the focus of the initiative was to deter impaired driving, officers also issued citations and made arrests during traffic stops for the following:
▪︎18 speeding violations
▪︎9 operating after revocation or suspension violations
▪︎0 open intox violations
▪︎3 vehicle registration violations
▪︎0 vehicle equipment violations
▪︎11 other moving violations
▪︎1 safety belt violation
▪︎0 drug arrests
▪︎0 felony arrests
▪︎1 misdemeanor arrest
▪︎0 warrant arrests
Officers also issued 75 written warnings during the enforcements.
"Our officers work throughout the year to help make our roadways and communities as safe as possible for everyone, but this grant allows us to focus our attention on Operating While Impaired violations,” Sergeant Jessica Quamme said.
