INCIDENT: Driving Under the Influence Resulting in Injuries
LOCATION: Twentynine Palms Highway (SR-62) and Mohawk Trail, Yucca Valley
SUSPECT(S): Ford F350 driven by Juan Herrera-Garcia, 48-year-old male resident of Yucca Valley
VICTIM(S): Acura sedan driven by Lillian Esquibel, 19-year-old female resident of Yucca Valley and passenger, Confidential, 17-year-old female resident of Yucca Valley
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 9:03 a.m., deputies assigned to the Yucca Valley Traffic Enforcement Division were dispatched to an injury traffic collision at Twentynine Palms Highway and Mohawk Trail in Yucca Valley. Deputies determined Juan Herrera-Garcia, the driver of a 2001 Ford F350, ran a red light at Mohawk Trail and continued eastbound on Twentynine Palms Highway through the intersection.
The F350 collided into the passenger side of a 2005 Acura sedan driven by Lillian Esquibel and her passenger, traveling south on Mohawk Trail through a green light. Esquibel sustained an injury to her left leg and the juvenile passenger was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for major injuries. Deputies on scene determined Herrera-Garcia drove under the influence of alcholol. He was placed under arrest for VC 23153(a) and 23153(b). Herrera-Garcia is being held at Morongo Basin Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
