A Success Story

On 08/18/21 at approx 10:00pm the Janesville Police Department was dispatched to a welfare check at an east side residence to check on an elderly person. Neighbors reported this individuals car was gone and they could not get a hold of them by phone. This was very unusual as they are always back home by 5:00pm every day. The individual has been experiencing signs of dementia and has been known to drive away and get lost. A computer check found the vehicle registered to the individual. JPD called On Star and they were able to locate the vehicle in motion in the city of Oshkosh. On Star made contact with the individual and they pulled into a nearby parking lot. Oshkosh PD responded and made contact. JPD made contact with the individual's daughter and informed her what was going on. She was not able to get to Oshkosh that evening but requested that her father stay in a hotel. Arrangements were made for the individual to stay at the Oshkosh Holiday Inn. The individual's neighbor (original responsible party) stated that they would go to Oshkosh the following morning with help to pick up both the individual and the vehicle.

This is a nice example of good communication between the community and the Janesville Police Department. Thank you to all involved who helped make this a success story!
