On August 16, 2021 at about 7:25 PM, Deputies from Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a carjacking call near Paxton Street and the 210 freeway in unincorporated City of Sylmar.  Deputies arrived and became aware of the suspect.  He was a 52 year old male, who attempted to carjack one victim and successfully carjacked another victim at knifepoint. 
 
During a search for the victim’s car, Deputy Heredia found the stolen vehicle at the onramp of Roxford Street and the 210 freeway.  The vehicle was engulfed in flames.  When additional Deputies arrived, they saw a person matching the description of the suspect walking on the side of the freeway.  Deputies detained the suspect.  A victim came to the location and identified the suspect as the person who had carjacked him.
 
The suspect was arrested for carjacking and attempted carjacking.  On August 18, 2021 the case was presented to the District Attorney’s Office in San Fernando.  They filed one count of carjacking and one count of attempted carjacking on the suspect.
 
Crescenta Valley Station would like to remind everyone to always be aware of their surroundings and always keep your car doors locked when you are inside.  In this incident, the victim of the attempted carjacking was able to prevent the suspect from obtaining the car because her doors were locked.
