Yesterday, SLPD investigated the report of 2 armed robberies, both occurring in the early evening hours.  The suspects in both cases either stated they had a firearm or displayed one to the victims.  The victims, all in their teens, appeared to be randomly targeted for their backpacks, cell phones, and wallets. 

Another robbery attempt occurred earlier in the week and targeted a victim who had just conducted a transaction at a local bank.  The suspects followed the victim away from the bank before attempting the robbery.

In response, SLPD has taken a 2-pronged approach to address this trend: Increasing high visibility patrols for crime deterrence and conducting crime suppression operations utilizing undercover detectives in affected areas.    

We would like to advise community members to always be aware of your surroundings, particularly when shopping or doing business at your bank.  If possible, please avoid prolonged use of electronic devices that both occupy your attention and present a target of opportunity.
