Advisory

Tropical Weather Statement in effect due to Hurricane Henri

The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Weather Statement for our area until further notice, and a Flood Watch has been posted beginning 8:00 PM on Saturday. Henri has become a Category 1 hurricane and will likely make landfall near hurricane strength across eastern Long Island early Sunday afternoon, bringing heavy rain and wind to the region.

The Westfield Police and Fire Departments are closely monitoring the storm, and the Downtown Westfield Corporation has advised all businesses to dismantle all outdoor dining items in anticipation of high winds.

PSE&G has advised that they are preparing for the possibility of high winds that can cause flying debris and bring down trees and power lines. Updated information about outages is available on PSE&G website: https://outagecenter.pseg.com/. Other local utilities can be reached at the following numbers:

Residents are reminded to take the following precautions:
  • Charge all phones and devices.
  • Secure outdoor furniture and garbage/recycling bins.
  • Do not approach downed wires.
  • In an emergency, always dial 911
  • For downed tree limbs, storm drain overages, and other non-emergency issues, please call 908-789-4000.
Stay informed via Nixle alerts (text 07090 to 888-777), social media (@Town of Westfield), or our website (www.westfieldnj.gov).
