FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR ALBANY COUNTY
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch including a large part of the Capital Region, including Albany County, through Monday evening. The National Weather Service’s announcement states:
* A widespread rainfall of 2 to 6 inches is expected as Tropical Cyclone Henri impacts the region. Localized rainfall amounts up to 6 to 10 inches are possible, especially over the higher terrain areas of the eastern Catskills and Berkshires. Rainfall rates exceeding 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible at times.
* Rapid rises could occur on smaller streams and creeks resulting in some rivers reaching flood stage. Urbanized areas, particularly in poor-drainage and low-lying areas, may also experience flooding.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
Please exercise caution and do not attempt to cross any roadway with standing water.
Officials are closely monitoring the storm and are prepared to work with local, state and federal agencies should the need arise.
As of 6am, the National Weather Service was expecting the storm to make landfall in eastern Long Island by early afternoon. Rain bands will begin to move further inland and overspread the Albany area from southeast to northwest later this afternoon. Heavy rainfall is expected with amounts ranging from 2 to 6 inches, and as much as 10 inches are possible in certain high terrain areas.
