Two arrested for breaking into a car near Lytle Creek

INCIDENT: Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit Crime
LOCATION: Lytle Creek Road / Glen Helen Parkway, Lytle Creek
SUSPECT(S): Gilbert Romero, 26 years of age and Jesus Garcia, 42 years of age residents of Rialto
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, deputies assigned to the Fontana Sheriff's Station were conducting proactive patrol in the Lytle Creek area. As deputies headed to the top of Lytle Creek Road near Glen Helen Parkway, they were flagged down by a motorist who reported following two suspects that had just broken into his vehicle. Deputies Foyil and Spinney obtained a brief description of the suspect vehicle, description of the suspects, and a direction of travel.
Deputies located the suspect vehicle and conducted a felony traffic stop. The two occupants of the vehicle were detained while deputies conducted the investigation. Gilberto Romero and Jesus Garcia were identified as the two responsible for the vehicle burglary. Stolen items belonging to the victim were located inside the suspect vehicle and returned to the owner. Romero and Garcia were arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center for burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Members of the public are encouraged not to leave any items of value in plain view inside their vehicle while using the hiking trails. The public should also be aware, cell phone reception in the mountain area is non-existent, in case an emergency should arise.
