Assistant coach arrested for invasion of privacy after placing camera in girls bathroom at Los Osos High School

DATE/TIME: August 25, 2021

INCIDENT: PC 647 (j) - Invasion of Privacy

LOCATION: Los Osos High School, City of Rancho Cucamonga

SUSPECT(S): Riden, David Arthur  Age: 52  Resident of Rancho Cucamonga, CA

VICTIM(S): Confidential


SUMMARY: Deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department were notified from staff at Los Osos High School of a hidden camera found in a female student restroom at the school. A covert recording device was located by a school staff member in the restroom, which is used by students at the school. Detectives from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department immediately began an investigation.

Through the investigation, detectives located evidence showing a school staff member, David Riden, was responsible for placing the camera in the girl's bathroom.

David Riden has been employed at Los Osos High School since 2015, as the boys locker room attendant, and assistant coach for the varsity football team. 

Detectives obtained search warrants and searched Riden's residence and vehicle. During the searches, Detectives seized multiple electronic devices. Riden was transported back to the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department for further investigation. At the conclusion of an interview with Riden, he was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center on the above charges. Detectives are continuing their investigation, and will conduct a forensic examination of the items seized. 

The Chaffey Joint Union High School District was immediately notified and are assisting with the investigation. On the afternoon of August 24th, 2021, Riden resigned from his position with the school district and is no longer employed there.

This is an on-going investigation. At the conclusion of the investigation, updated details will be released.
