Law Enforcement & Janesville School District Brave Weather for Kids 
Yesterday, August 25th, 2021, the Janesville Police Department, the Rock County Sheriff’s Department and the Janesville School District all partnered for the annual Back to School Picnic. The event was held at the Rockvale Community Center, 6219 US Hwy 51, from 5 to 7pm.
Despite yesterday’s rain, school staff and officers were able to give away 50 backpacks to the youth who attended the event. Some of the local sponsors included Juvenile Justice, Janesville Mobilizing for Change, Rock County Children’s Long-Term Support, YMCA of Northern Rock County, and 5 Star Tainos Puerto Rican Restaurant.
The staff from 5 Star Barber Shop also provided free kids’ haircuts. Check out the attached picture for one of the fun designs!
The Janesville Police Department takes pride in promoting partnerships between community-based organizations and connecting youth and families with a network of available services. Officers enjoy being able to engage with youth in a fun and friendly environment with their families.
We hope to have the event again next year but with more sunshine!
