Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 05:30PM

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Northeastern McDowell County in western North Carolina... Southwestern Burke County in western North Carolina...

* Until 530 PM EDT.

* At 503 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles northeast of Marion, or over Lake James, moving west at 10 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to trees and power lines.

* Locations impacted include... Marion, Lake James State Park, Lake James, Nebo, North Cove, Pleasant Gardens, Ashford, Woodlawn, Table Rock and B.R. Parkway-Little Switzerland To Linville.

* AFFECTED AREAS: BURKE, NC ... MCDOWELL, NC

Instructions:

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Brief damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines over small areas. A brief period of large hail is also possible. Seek shelter inside an interior room. If on or near Lake James, get away from the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
