Flash Flood Warning until 09:15PM Thursday

The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for... South Central Nicholas County in southeastern West Virginia...

* Until 915 PM EDT.

* At 620 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... mainly rural areas of South Central Nicholas County This includes the following streams and drainages... Elevenmile Fork, North Prong Creek, Brushy Meadow Creek, Meadow River, Youngs Creek, Anglins Creek, Hominy Creek, Middle Branch Hominy Creek, Sugargrove Creek and Mouse Fork.

* AFFECTED AREAS: NICHOLAS, WV

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely. Please report Severe Weather to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely. You may also report severe weather by posting your report to the Charleston West Virginia National Weather Service Facebook Page, or by using the Twitter Hashtag, NWSRLX.
