Suspected Arrested for Possession of a Stolen U-Haul Truck

INCIDENT: Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
LOCATION: State Highway 18 & Kasota Road in The Town of Apple Valley
SUSPECT(S): Jesse Joe Nunez, a 21-year-old transient
VICTIM(S): U-Haul
SUMMARY: On Thursday, August 25, 2021, Sheriff's Service Specialist C. Rodriguez from the Apple Valley Police Department was dispatched to a report of a U-Haul moving truck left in the roadway on State Highway 18.
When Rodriguez arrived, the moving truck was in the westbound lane of State Highway 18 near Kasota Road. A records check of the vehicle revealed it was reported stolen out of Victorville on August 20, 2021. A witness saw the suspect, later identified as Jesse Nunez, driving the truck and leaving it in the roadway. With the assistance of Deputy Umphlett, Nunez was located in the area and taken into custody without incident.
Nunez was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for being in possession of a stolen vehicle and is scheduled to appear in the Victorville Superior Court on August 27, 2021. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
