Today, at 9:52 am, the Novato Police Department and Novato Fire District responded to reports of a vehicle fire on San Marin Drive west of Simmons Lane. Officers quickly located a Recology Marin waste collection truck with the passenger compartment engulfed in flames.  The driver was located safely away from the vehicle and uninjured.  The Novato Fire District quickly extinguished the fire.  Both fire and police personnel worked to ensure hazardous fluids escaping from the truck were not able to enter nearby storm drains.

A cleanup crew from Recology Marin arrived and worked with a representative from the City of Novato Public Works Department to mitigate dangers associated with fluid loss from the truck. 

The roadway was closed during cleanup and is now reopen to traffic.  We would like to thank our Novato Fire, City of Novato and private sector partners for their response and assistance.
