Armed Subject Call Leads to Stolen Vehicle Recovery and Arrests

Armed Subject Call Leads to Stolen Vehicle Recovery and Arrests

On 8/28/21 at 5:27 PM, Officers were dispatched to an armed subject complaint near the intersection of Glen St and Columbus Circle.

It was reported that a suspicious Ford Explorer that had been spray-painted white was circling the area.  The reporting person observed a male exit the vehicle and enter a neighbor’s open garage.  The reporting person took photos of the suspect and vehicle which caused the suspect to confront the reporting person.  During the confrontation the suspect displayed a handgun and broke the phone that was used to take the photos.  The suspect then ran away on foot.

Janesville Police responded and set up a perimeter on the area.  The Rock County Sheriff’s Office and K9 Jax assisted in searching the area where the suspect was last seen running.  The suspect was located hiding under some trees and taken into custody without incident.  He was in possession of a can of pepper spray.  The gun was not located.  The suspect was identified as Terry Foster of Madison WI.  Foster had an active warrant from Plover WI for auto theft.

A short time later, a Janesville officer located the painted Ford Explorer and took the driver into custody.  The driver was identified as Daniel R Thompson of Tomah WI.  Thompson was in possession of methamphetamine and had several outstanding warrants.

Upon further inspection of the vehicle, the registration plates did not match the VIN number and multiple sets of registration plates were located.  Eventually, it was confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen from a gas station in Plover WI and that Foster was on video stealing it.

A search of the vehicle located numerous items that could be considered to be burglarous tools.  Also located in the vehicle were several items of property that are believed to be stolen.

The Janesville Police sent an alert with information to surrounding jurisdictions in an attempt to locate any further crimes that these subjects may be involved in.  Citizens believing they have more information related to this incident are encouraged to call Rock County Dispatch at (608)757-2244 or Janesville Area Crime Stoppers at (608)756-3636.
