Wind is creating Extreme Fire Danger this afternoon, increasing to RED FLAG WARNING Monday & Tuesday, Truckee/Tahoe.

RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM MONDAY TO 11 PM PDT TUESDAY FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY FOR THE EASTERN SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA...

* Affected Area...Fire Zone 272 Greater Lake Tahoe and Truckee

* Winds...Southwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts to around 35 mph. Higher gusts possible in wind prone areas and along exposed terrain. Ridgetop winds may gust over 50 mph, even during the overnight period.

* Humidity...Minimum values 10 to 20 percent.

* Duration...3 to 6 hours Monday afternoon and then 3 to 6 hours Tuesday afternoon. Much longer durations are possible for exposed midslopes and ridges, even during the overnight period.

* Impacts...The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and

Keep your phone turned on and near your bed during the night so you can get evacuation notices. Always be prepared to evacuate in Fire Season.

Have a GO BAG ready with your important items, have a garden hose and shovel ready, park fueled cars facing out, know two ways out of your neighborhood, pay attention to your phone for evacuation notices and GO EARLY, if you see smoke or think you should go. NO OPEN FLAMES OR SPARKS!
