* WHAT...Heat index values up to 103 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Mississippi and southeast Louisiana.

* WHEN...From 10 AM to 5 PM CDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heat advisory thresholds have been temporarily lowered to 100, due to many of our communities without power and for high situational awareness during recovering efforts after Ida.

* AFFECTED AREAS: POINTE COUPEE ... WEST FELICIANA ... EAST FELICIANA ... ST. HELENA ... WASHINGTON ... NORTHERN TANGIPAHOA ... SOUTHEAST ST. TAMMANY ... WILKINSON ... AMITE ... PIKE ... WALTHALL

Instructions:

Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Be very cognizant of your hydration levels and take plenty of breaks. The absence of some basic services amid high heat indices can make situation very acute for areas challenged by power outages. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
