RED FLAG WARNING Extended through Wed, Tahoe/Truckee. EXTREME FIRE DANGER. Strong winds today! NO SPARKS!

RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM PDT WEDNESDAY FOR UNSTABLE CONDITIONS, GUSTY WINDS, AND LOW HUMIDITY FOR THE EASTERN SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA...

* Affected Area...Fire Zone 272 Greater Lake Tahoe and Truckee Area...... 
  
* Winds...Southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts to around 35 mph. Gusts may reach 40 mph in some locations Tuesday, especially along Highway 395. Winds gusts may exceed 50 mph over ridge lines in the Sierra.

* Humidity...Minimum values 5 to 15 percent.

* Duration...3 to 6 hours Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Winds will not subside much for exposed midslopes and ridges during the overnight period tonight.

* Impacts...The combination of unstable conditions, gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity.

Keep your phone turned on and near your bed during the night so you can get evacuation notices. Always be prepared to evacuate in Fire Season.

Have a GO BAG ready with your important items, have a garden hose and shovel ready, park fueled cars facing out, know two ways out of your neighborhood, pay attention to your phone for evacuation notices and GO EARLY, if you see smoke or think you should go. NO OPEN FLAMES OR SPARKS!


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, campfires or BBQ's. Check weather.gov/reno for updates and livingwithfire.info, or ReadyForWildfire.org for preparedness tips.
