FLOOD WATCH TODAY UNTIL THURSDAY 9/2
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for our area until tomorrow, Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM.
The remnants of Ida as a post-tropical low will approach the region today and will move near Long Island late tonight into early Thursday. This approaching post-tropical low will allow for deep tropical moisture along the Middle Atlantic and Northeast to produce heavy rain showers this morning through early Thursday morning.
The heaviest of the rain showers are expected late this afternoon through tonight. The rainfall should begin to taper off Thursday morning into the early afternoon from west to east. A widespread 3 to 6 inches of rain is forecast with locally higher amounts likely.
This rainfall combined with our previous wet conditions will likely lead to flash flooding. Flooding of rivers and streams is likely, with potential flooding of main stem rivers as well that could linger into the day Thursday.
Please monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
The Saddle Brook Police Department is discouraging unnecessary travel. Police want to ensure residents do not drive or walk through flood waters. Flood waters are very unsafe and should be avoided.
If anyone notices barriers or cones blocking flooded areas, please chose an alternate route and do not attempt to drive or walk through the water.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
Please share.
