SMPD Detective Bureau seek assistance to identify those involved in an altercation that took place at Santa Maria High School.
On Saturday, August 28, 2021, Santa Maria Police responded to a report of an altercation involving a firearm at a youth football game. The game was being played at Santa Maria High School at about 3:54 PM. Multiple witnesses called SMPD reporting the altercation.
Initial calls to SMPD indicated that a shooting had occurred; however, the initial investigation did not show any evidence of a shooting. The investigation did show that two groups of people were involved in an exchange of words just prior to a physical altercation. During the physical altercation, witnesses reported seeing a firearm produced by an individual.
SMPD officers located some individuals involved and conducted interviews. A firearm was recovered from the scene believed to be related to the altercation. SMPD Detectives are conducting a follow up investigation and are seeking community assistance.
SMPD believes many spectators may have witnessed the incident take place and left the area prior to the arrival of officers. If you were a witness to the incident or have information related to the subjects involved, you are asked to contact the SMPD.
