Advisory

Tornado Watch and Flash Flood Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 10 PM this evening, a flash flood warning until 12:15 AM, and a flash flood watch until Thursday morning, September 2nd for Morris County. As we look at the forecast data, we are not as concerned with the Tornado threat as we are with the rain and flooding.

We have been experiencing torrential rain which is expected to continue through this evening before lightening up and tapering off after Midnight.

We may experience flooding issues as the storm continues to produce several inches of rain over a short period of time.

We may see widespread roadway flooding along with possible flash flooding that will rapidly develop this evening as streams in the area overflow their banks.

Stream/creek flooding will continue after the rain stops through tomorrow and this flooding has the potential to linger into Friday.

Road closures are possible in impacted areas and we will continue to monitor this weather event and provide updates if it is determined to be necessary.

We continue to be in touch with our partners at Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) and they are staffed and ready to respond to any outages caused by this storm. Flood mitigation protocols are also in place for any JCP&L properties susceptible to flooding.

In the event outages occur due to severe weather, customers without power are encouraged to report their outage by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), clicking the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com, or by texting “OUT” to 544487.  Customers should immediately report downed wires to 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) or call their local police department/9-1-1 for emergency issues.

Please remain diligent on the roadways and stay away from downed wires, even if you believe they are no longer carrying electricity. Extra caution should be used in areas where downed lines are tangled with trees or other debris.  Motorists are cautioned to treat intersections with inoperable traffic signals as four-way stops.
