FLASH FLOOD WARNING ISSUED

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for our area.

At 5:54 PM, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain moving north across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen.

An additional 3 to 6 inches of rain is forecast with locally higher amounts likely.  Localized Flash Flooding is expected to begin shortly in roadways, streams and rivers in our area.

HAZARD:  Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
SOURCE:  Radar.
IMPACT:  Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

The remnants of Ida as a post-tropical low will move near Long Island late tonight into early Thursday. This post-tropical low will allow for deep tropical moisture along the Middle Atlantic and Northeast to produce heavy rain showers this evening and through the overnight into Thursday.

The heaviest of the rain showers are expected late this afternoon through tonight. The rainfall should begin to taper off Thursday morning into the early afternoon from west to east.

Please monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action as required.

The Saddle Brook Police Department is discouraging unnecessary travel.  Police want to ensure residents do not drive or walk through flood waters. Flood waters are very unsafe and should be avoided.

If anyone notices barriers or cones blocking flooded areas, please chose an alternate route and do not attempt to drive or walk through the water.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Please share.
