Advisory

Post-Storm Update - River Receding, Recovery Efforts Underway, Storm Clean-up Details To Follow.

SHELTER IN PLACE IF POSSIBLE AND SAFE TO DO SO.  The Rahway River levels are receding and as a result, roadways are becoming gradually passible.  We still recommend that residents limit unnecessary travel as some roadways remain obstructed and impassible. Roadways are still being cleared of disabled vehicles and standing water.

There have been a number of reports of individuals swimming in, walking in, kayaking in and tubing in the floodwaters.  This is extremely dangerous as the floodwaters consist of riverwater, sewage, and debris.  Individuals who risk kayaking or canoeing in the water, especially without personal floatation devices, risk serious bodily injury and create avoidable hazards for our water rescue teams from the Police and Fire Departments.

Absolutely NOBODY should be kayaking or canoeing in the main channels of the Rahway River either.  Currents remain extremely strong, debris is floating downstream, and the riverbanks are still overflowing in certain areas.

The Township of Cranford and Department of Public Works are working on a debris removal program - details forthcoming.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation throughout this event - and will continue to keep residents updated as information becomes available during our recovery process.

Be safe.
